Overall, this song is a f*cking dumpster fire^^^^ that I cannot recommend to anyone. Stay far away from this, but if you must listen to it, here’s some advice. Take a note of everything that makes you cringe (you might find something that I missed) and make it a game of sorts. Revel in the fact that this was not only green lit, not only released as a single alongside the masterful Castle on the Hill, but also that this became more successful (it’s cheap, yes, and cheap tends to, by definition, sell, but this is still miles worse than something simply generic). This song is just the right balance of awful (but not toxic), popular, and having some traces of quality to be perfect (pun not intended) for this kind of thing. High 1/10 because of the guitar, beat that works at first, the last five seconds, and the fact that no lyrics are outright toxic or predatory in any way. Definitely not enough to save the song from being an abomination, but just enough so that it isn’t the worst song ever. ^Yes, I know that this beat is attributed to Rihanna (and can also work really well), but I don’t know her discography at all, and also that statement is still true nonetheless.
I am one of the biggest defenders of Ed Sheeran in my friend group and i still feel + and × are both good albums, but this song really signaled the death of the Ed Sheeran i loved. The niche he carved out for himself is sadly çompletely dead, wheather it's because of label interference or other reasons is still up in the air.
Production wise it's very clean, not too much going on that it becomes distracting or overwhelming. Cool beat - I especially love the subtle flamenco guitar strum (you can hear it really clearly in the very beginning) . Ed’s harmonies rock as always and the hook is addictive.
hate this song.. I love Ed Sheeran but this song is a joke really.. I don't know why it's getting so much attention from everyone.. it's demeaning to girls and people are just rejoicing for a song like this.. I don't know what else to say. Ed Sheeran make more songs like Perfect!
This song makes me feel great kind of like my boyfriend's talking to me and he says things like the song says all the time, and when I hear the song reminds me of his beautiful soul. the song makes me feel loved and has a wonderful beat too. the song makes me just want to dance.
